1. சபையின் அஸ்திபாரம்
நம் மீட்பர் கிறிஸ்துவே;
சபையின் ஜன்மாதாரம்
அவரின் வார்த்தையே;
தம் மணவாட்டியாக
வந்ததைத் தேடினார்,
தமக்குச் சொந்தமாக
மரித்ததைக் கொண்டார்.

2. எத்தேசத்தார் சேர்ந்தாலும்,
சபை ஒன்றே ஒன்றாம்;
ஒரே விஸ்வாசத்தாலும்
ஒரே ரட்சிப்புண்டாம்;
ஒரே தெய்வீக நாமம்
சபையை இணைக்கும்;
ஓர் திவ்ய ஞானாகாரம்
பக்தரைப் போஷிக்கும்.

Hymn in English
1. The Church’s one foundation
Is Jesus Christ her Lord,
She is His new creation
By water and the Word.
From heaven He came and sought her
To be His holy bride;
With His own blood He bought her
And for her life He died.

2. She is from every nation,
Yet one o’er all the earth;
Her charter of salvation,
One Lord, one faith, one birth;
One holy Name she blesses,
Partakes one holy food,
And to one hope she presses,
With every grace endued.

3. ’Mid toil and tribulation,
And tumult of her war,
She waits the consummation
Of peace forevermore;
Till, with the vision glorious,
Her longing eyes are blest,
And the great Church victorious
Shall be the Church at rest.

Devotional thoughts/historical background
“built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone,” (Ephesians 2:20 ESV)
This hymn was written from deep pain caused by some work published in the 1860s that questioned the historical accuracy of Holy Scripture.
Rev. Stone, concerned that people were reciting the Apostles Creed without meaning it, wrote a set of twelve hymns in 1866, each dealing with an article of the creed. This series was called Lyra Fidelium or ‘Lyre of the Faithful’. This hymn, The Church’s One Foundation, deals with the ninth article, which states: I believe in the Holy Catholic (universal) church.
