Devotional thoughts/historical background
The Lord Jesus said: Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. (Luke 12:34). Where is your treasure? What occupies your thoughts the most? On what activity do you spend your time and strength? How do you spend your money?

This hymn came from a Ireland during a period when the country was spiritually rich. Dallan Forgaill is believed to have penned it. But some believe that the hymn, in some form, came from a man the world recognises as St. Patrick. He was born in 373 A.D. in Scotland. When he was 16, he was kidnapped by pirates and brought to Ireland as a slave. There it was that he committed his life to the Lord. He escaped from his captors, but returned to them with a copy of the Latin Bible. History tells us that St. Patrick evangelised Ireland for Christ. As a result of his preaching, and he was known as the apostle to Ireland.
